What you need to know for the Day of Surgery:
Check-in – When you arrive at our center we ask that you check-in at the registration desk to verify personal, escort and insurance information.
Following Admission – After checking in at our center, you will be brought to the private room where the nurse will do a health interview and prepare you for surgery. You and your family or escort will stay in the room until it is time for your surgery. An anesthesiologist will discuss your anesthesia with you and answer any questions. At the appropriate time you will be escorted to the operating room. During surgery your escort will stay in a waiting area and will rejoin you in the Phase II recovery area after your surgery.
To help us meet all your needs, please follow these guidelines:
- Arrange in advance for a responsible adult to drive you home and remain with you for 24 hours after your surgery. You may take a taxi as long as you are accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Please bathe or shower prior to your surgery. Remove all makeup. Do not use lotions or oils after bathing.
- Remove all jewelry
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as sweat suits and easy-to-button shirts or blouses that are big enough to accommodate a large bandage after surgery. Wear comfortable slip-on shoes; no high heels, please.
- Leave all valuables, including jewelry, at home. We cannot responsible for damage or lost property. You will be required to have your ID with you.
- Be prepared to sign a form giving your consent for the operation. If the patient is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the patient and sign the consent form. The parent or guardian is required to stay at the surgery center until the patient is discharged.
- Bring all insurance cards and ID with you to the center. See the section on insurance and billing.
- Please contact the facility the day before your surgery to determine what your arrival time should be. Surgery times are often updated
the day before your surgery.
- Advance Directives: Presidio Surgery Center is not an acute care hospital, and in the unlikely event that a situation arose where your advance directives would be called into use, we would not interpret your advance directives but would rather transfer you to an acute care hospital with your advance directives.
